At least one person was killed and another is in critical condition after a fire broke out in a 23-storey building in Dahisar, Mumbai, on Sunday afternoon. A total of 36 residents were rescued, 19 were admitted to nearby hospitals, and seven others sustained injuries.
Around 3 PM, a fire broke out on the seventh floor of B Wing, New Jan Kalyan Society, Shanti Nagar, Dahisar East, a suburb of Mumbai. People immediately informed the police and fire brigade, and seven fire trucks rushed to the site.
The fire rescue teams managed to save 36 people, including women, men, and children. They were admitted to two nearby private hospitals. At Rohit Hospital, one woman succumbed to her injuries. A differently-abled girl is in serious condition, and five others are undergoing treatment.
According to the Fire Department, a preliminary investigation found that the fire originated in the basement due to a malfunctioning electric wire and then spread upward through the electric duct.
