1. Banu Mushtaq of India received ‘International Booker Prize 2025’
On May 20, Indian writer, advocate and activist Banu Mushtaq received the International Booker Prize 2025 for his book ‘Heart Lamp’.
Heart lamp is the first book written in Kannada language, whose English translation has got the International Booker Prize 2025.
- Deepa Bheshti has translated it to English.
- Banu Mushtaq and Deepa Bhatshi received the award at the program held in Tate Modern, London.
- Both have also received prize money of 50,000 pounds i.e. about 52.95 lakh rupees, which is distributed equally between the author and the translator.
- ‘Heart Lamp’ has a collection of 12 short stories, which was chosen from 6 books around the world.
- This is the first short story collection to receive the award.
- Deepa Bheshti is the first Indian translator to win the award for this book.
2. Mizoram became the first full literate state in the country
On May 20, Chief Minister Lalduhoma declared Mizoram the country’s first full literate state.
In a program held at Mizoram University, Chief Minister Lalduhoma Mizoram announced to become the first full literate state in the country.
- Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary was also present on the occasion.
- Mizoram found the status of full literate state under the Understanding of Lifleong Learning for All in Society.
- In order to declare a state a full litterate, it has to cross the fixed benchmark of the Ministry of Education.
- Mizoram has also crossed the 95% benchmark of the Ministry of Education.
- The literacy rate in the state has reached 98.2%, which was 91.33% in the 2011 census.
- Earlier, the Union Territory of Ladakh has achieved full literacy target in the year 2024.

1. Uttarakhand Madrasa Board syllabus will include ‘Operation Sindoor’
On May 20, the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board has decided to include ‘Operation Sindoor’ in its curriculum across the state. Under this, students will learn about the recent military campaign.
Mufti Shamoon Kasami, President of Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Council, announced the inclusion of ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the syllabus.
The board wants the children to be familiar with the history of the country and the might of the army. A meeting of the course committee will be called soon to include the chapter of ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the new course.
Uttarakhand has 451 madrasas, of which around 50,000 students study.
2. Jharkhand 8th board exam results released
On May 20, Jharkhand Academic Council i.e. JAC released the result of 8th board examination. A total of 4,71,937 children passed it this year. This year pass percentage is 94.39%, while last year’s result was 94.16%.
This time a total of 5,80,023 children were innrolled for the board examination. Of these, 4,99,972 children appeared in the examination.
This year Bokaro’s result was the best. From here, 22,406 children had registered for the examination, out of which 21,951 students attended the exam and a total of 20,916 students passed.
