During a fierce debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha during Parliament’s Monsoon Session on Monday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the May 10 ceasefire with Pakistan, saying his 56-inch chest shrinks to 36-inches when he faces US President Donald Trump.
The attack was a direct jab at the Prime Minister with reference to Trump’s constant claims that he indeed brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan after days of military hostilities between the two countries. The conflict followed India’s May 7 Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
Just a week ago, the White House credited Trump for resolving the India-Pakistan conflict, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt describing his foreign policy as “aggressive, results-driven, and underappreciated”.
Prior to that, Trump claimed that around four to five jets were shot down during the hostilities in May even as he again claimed that he mediated the ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed countries by using the trade bogey.
