Just when you thought every shred of vintage Star Wars memorabilia had seen the light of day, here comes an auction featuring set photographs that have gone unseen by outsiders for multiple decades. Propstore is featuring a two-part collection of snaps taken behind the scenes of Return of the Jedi by visual effects artist Stuart Ziff as part of its upcoming Spring Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.
In all, there are over 500 unpublished photos from the set of the 1983 film, though Propstore has divided what it’s dubbed “The Stuart Ziff Collection: Star Wars” into three lots. The first includes over 300 images from the “Redwoods River Shoot” and includes the negatives; it’s estimated to go for $3,000 to $6,000. Here are a few Endor-coded examples.
Then there are over 150 images from the “Yuma and Elstree Studios Shoot,” also with negatives, estimated to go for $1,500 to $3,000. One of them you can see below features Harrison Ford in his Han Solo costume, posing with a visitor to the set.
Finally, you can also bid on Ziff’s Revenge of the Jedi (note the original title there) bound continuity breakdown with his handwritten annotations, estimated to sell for $1,500 to $3,000.
“I never set out to create a collection like this,” Ziff said in a press release. “I was part of the team, and these photographs were just moments I felt were worth capturing at the time. They reflect what it was really like to be there, behind the scenes, during an extraordinary production, and I’m excited that more fans will now have the chance to see them through the Propstore auction.”
