Fonda police in South Goa have arrested a 22-year-old man for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, who was found dead in a forested area of Pratap Nagar. The couple had reportedly travelled to Goa from Bengaluru with the intention of getting married, but a dispute between them ended in tragedy.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Sanjay Kevin M, a resident of North Bengaluru, Karnataka. The victim, Roshni Moses M, also 22, was from the same area.
After committing the crime, Sanjay allegedly fled back to Bengaluru.
According to police, the couple had arrived in Goa recently. “They came to Goa from Bengaluru to get married. But due to some unknown reason, there was a dispute between the two and two days ago Sanjay killed Roshni and threw the body in the forest,” police said.
The murder came to light on Monday evening, when Roshni’s body was found in the forest area of Pratap Nagar in South Goa. Police confirmed that her throat had been slit.
Superintendent of Police (South Goa) Tikam Singh Verma, who visited the spot after the body was discovered, said: “This murder was the result of a love affair, a marriage proposal and the dispute that arose from it.”
Following the discovery of the body, police launched an investigation and received a lead pointing to Sanjay. He was traced and arrested in Bengaluru within 24 hours of the crime being discovered.
