Cabin Crew from some of the world’s leading airlines have spilt the beans on how to make travelling a breeze this holiday season.

They reveal the best days to travel, where to sit for a smooth exit, how to pack to avoid delays at security and some all-important tips on getting an upgrade.

In an Air & Cruise Parking survey, flight attendants from Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, and British Airways used their expert knowledge to make your trip home smoother this Christmas.

TRAVEL ON CHRISTMAS EVE

December 24 is a surprisingly relaxing time to travel. Most travellers have reached their destination now, so the airports are quieter, and flights are often less crowded.

This is a great tip for families who can avoid the rush over the Christmas period while still arriving at their destination in time to enjoy the festivities.

DON’T WRAP BEFORE YOU FLY

Keeping your carry-on light and organised is another top flight attendant tip for a smooth run through the airport.

If you are carrying gifts, the TSA may need to inspect them, so it’s best to wrap them after arriving at your destination.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR AN UPGRADE, BUT ASK THE RIGHT PERSON

As with most things in life, if you don’t ask, you don’t get. The same applies to scoring that holiday upgrade.

But don’t bother asking the flight attendant at the desk; unfortunately, they have no control over upgrades.

Your best bet is to ask at the check-in desk. Even if there isn’t a free upgrade, they might be able to offer you a discount.

FOR A QUICK EXIT, DON’T BOOK THE CENTRE OF THE PLANE

Finally, if you want a smooth and timely exit from the plane, don’t book seats 11A and 11F. Located right in the centre of the aircraft, they are often the slowest to disembark.
