Hyderabad: Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy, national president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc), met GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan on Tuesday, urging action on long-pending demands of GHMC employees that have remained unresolved since the BRS regime.
The Intuc delegation submitted a detailed representation highlighting key demands. These include the allotment of 150 sq. yard housing sites to all GHMC employees, conduct of union recognition elections through the labour department to determine the majority workers’ union in GHMC and issuance of health cards to employees on par with state government staff or provision of health insurance coverage up to Rs 15 lakh.
They also sought immediate promotions across all categories of employees—from Class IV staff to assistant municipal commissioners—appointment of in-charge deputy commissioners from among senior AMCs, and an end to harassment of bill collectors, tax inspectors, superintendents and AMCs through baseless show-cause notices issued over unrealistic tax targets.
Additional demands included transfers on compassionate grounds for employees facing health issues or long-distance commutes, enhancement of wages for contract and outsourcing workers to a minimum of Rs 26,000 per month and exemption from FRS attendance for regular sanitary workers, sanitary jawans and other permanent staff.
Following the meeting, the GHMC commissioner responded positively and assured the delegation that he would take up all the issues with the state government for resolution.
The meeting was facilitated by Adil Shariff, working president, Municipal Sahakar Mazdoor Union – affiliated to Intuc. Senior Intuc leaders, including R.D. Chandrashekar (general secretary), A.V.S. Gandhi (general secretary), and others, participated in the meeting.
