More than 1,600 tourists stranded in North Sikkim’s Lachung and Chungthang towns due to rain-triggered landslides were evacuated on Monday.
The evacuation began after the Border Roads Organisation restored road connectivity to Lachung in Mangan district.
Since May 29, incessant rainfall has triggered landslides across Mangan district, causing partial damage to bridges at Phidang and Sangkalang, disrupting road connectivity for several days.
